President's Climate Commitment

1. C. Within two years of signing this document, develop an institutional action plan for becoming climate neutral, which will include:
      i. A target date for achieving climate neutrality as soon as possible.
     ii. Interim targets for goals and actions that will lead to climate neutrality.
    iv. Actions to expand research or other efforts necessary to achieve climate neutrality.
     v. Mechanisms for tracking progress on goals and actions.
 
2. Initiate two or more of the following tangible actions to reduce greenhouse gases while the more comprehensive plan is being developed. (7 possible choices)
    A. Establish a policy that all new campus construction will be built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard or equivalent.
    B. Adopt an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in alla reas for which such ratings exist.
    C. Establish a policy of offsetting all greenhouse gas emissions generated by air travel paid for by our institution.
    D. Encourage use of and provide access to public transportation for all faculty, staff, students and visitors at our institution.
    E.  Within one year of signing this document, begin purchasing or producing at least 15% of our institution's electricity consumption from renewable sources.

Equipment

Suggestion to purchase software to shut down all computers when the college is closed at night and on weekends.
 
Libraries are directed to shut down all monitors, cpus, photocopiers and printers at the end of each work day.  3/2008
 
President asked staff to remove small electric heaters.  12/2008
 
Trudy is working on obtaining a list of all equipment and appliances and lights and determining their power usage.
 
Support Center has expanded the list of equipment that can be turned off at the end of the day.  8/24/2009

Transportation

District Governing Board 10/21/2008 authorized an Intergovernmental Agreement to partner with Regional Connector Transit Services to provide transportation between Show Low and Holbrook with a resolution to contribute no more than $7595.00 in the first year.
 
College President directs staff to share rides when possible, drive 55 mph or under and mandates van pooling to all-college events.  2/2/2009
 
College President will track the request to purchase software to manage ride sharing - for staff as well as students.  2/4/2009
